About Knock On Wood

Knock on Wood is a partnership of two musicians and music enthusiasts originally established in 1980.

Andy Wilson is a self taught musician and composer and founder of Knock on Wood who previously performed with the duo ‘Akimbo’ for 8 years in Britain, Europe and the USA. He plays piano and tuned percussion (mbira, xylophone, santoor etc) and writes music for animation films using a combination of electronic and acoustic sources. Andy works with young school children (including two of his own) introducing non-Western music and instruments.

Ianto Thornber joined Knock on Wood in 1989 bringing a degree in Marketing, and a fine didjeridu technique learned from a recent trip to Arnhem Land. He went on to perform with the legendary Bushgiants and currently with drum group Carabali. He teaches drum cirdes and is the author of the acclaimed ‘Djembe Guide for Beginners’. His young daughter Holly keeps him in touch with the ‘youth market’!
