African Drums and Percussion
Knock on Wood and African music have a long association. I first heard a recording of Zimbabwean mbira music back in 1972 and was instantly hooked by the hypnotic polyrhythms and beautiful melodies. Later, the music of Africa became an essential element of our first shop under Leeds railway station, and our current shop features the widest range of home grown African CD's and DVD's outside London
We now offer a large range of African percussion, much of it sourced from a Ghanaian fair trade co-operative which we visited in 1994. These include talking drums, kayamba, kass kass, gankogui, apitua, xylophones and a large range of djembe drums, selected by one of our directors, Ianto Thornber (also author of the acclaimed Djembe Guide and teacher of our Tuesday night drum class.)
