Indian Percussion

Please choose from a sub category below or to the left.

  • Much sampled but much less often played for real, the Indian percussion section takes some working at to get results. The playing technique for the tablas for instance involves many distinct strokes and different methods for each hand. The double ended dholak is played with a hand technique which resembles fluttering butterflies at a flame, and its bigger cousin, the dhol, centerpiece of the bhangra rhythm section, is played with two distinct sticks, one curved one straight, playing interlocking rhythms. Not for the faint hearted but with rich rewards for the persistant. As usual we've scoured the earth for tuition books, CD's and DVD's to help you along
  • In the hand held department, we can offer, chungroos, khartals, manjeera, monkey drums and more
