The Chau is the most commonly known gong. It is found in symphony orchestras and rock bands the world over. Not specifically pitched, contains a complex combination of frequencies coupled with tremendous dynamic range and sustain.

Product overview

  • Tam-Tams or Chau Gongs are built with a thick edge where the metal is folded back
  • This design focuses the vibration in the centre whilst the outer edge holds the tone until all the overtones are faded and only the tremble of the deepest foundation tone is audible
  • The bronze used to make the Chau gongs is made from a secret mixture of many metals
  • While the gongs are polished the metal is hardened through hammering and the centre is slightly domed
  • Includes a gong beater
