- The low whistle was developed in the early 70s by Bernard Overton (and therefore shouldn't really have featured on the soundtrack to Titanic!)
- It's tuned an octave below the equivalent penny whistle, often in D
- Low whistles are made nowadays by Dixon, Susato, Chieftain, Shaw and Howard
