Description
A classic instrument from Brazil’s rodas de samba, the Repique de Anel combines bright metallic accents with rich, resonant drum tones.
The shell is played with the fingers, often using a metal ring (anel) or coins attached to the instrument to create the characteristic clicking sound used in telecoteco-style rhythms. Players can produce a wide variety of sounds, including open tones, muted strokes, taps, slaps, and harmonics.
Versatile and expressive, the Repique de Anel can be played on a stand or across the lap. Its rhythmic role is similar to that of the third surdo in a samba bateria, adding syncopation, texture, and drive to the groove.
Perfect for samba and pagode, this unique instrument brings energy, character, and authentic Brazilian swing to any percussion setup.
