KOW Mali Krin

Carved from a single piece of wood, the krin is played with wooden sticks and resonates as one when stricken.
These krin's are imported from Mali, west Africa where they are hand carved from carefully selected pieces of wood.
The bigger the log the greater the sound, this can also be increased by placing on a stand to increase the resonance.
The work put into carving these simple looking instruments is surprisingly difficult, the process of creating the slits and tongues is technical and their relationship is essential in creating an instrument that sounds great as opposed to 'dead'.
